“Romero returned to Los Angeles in 1969 after pursuing his artistic career in New York. He soon joined Carlos Almaraz, Roberto “Beto” de la Rocha, Gilbert “Magú” Luján, and later Judithe Hernández and John Valadez to form Los Four, one of the first Chicano collectives in the United States. Together, the group produced works informed by their deep knowledge of art history, urban Chicano life, and Mexican tradition.” - E. Carmen Ramos, Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art.
