Eau de David is a resin-cast bust of the biblical king David surrounded by an assemblage of items essentializing the ideal portrait of a man. The stoic figure is situated in front of Hieronymous Bosch’s The Garden of Earthly Delights, accompanied by an assortment of objects, including a ‘Kingpin’ branded bowling pin, a ceramic lion, and vintage cologne bottles, such as an Avon “Indian Teepee” cologne and an Old Spice “Ship’s Wheel” decanter. The virile scent of aged cologne fills the air around David, satirizing traditional notions of masculinity and the commercial products that uphold them.
