Corazón Nopalero depicts a nopal cactus, a Chicano Iconography staple growing from the heart's valves. This work processes the relationship between the artists and their culture and their proximity. Einar de la Torre explains in an interview with Glasstire for their 2024 McNay exhibition, “Culture is different when you are born into a culture than when you are first or second generation; we are not going to be defined by this or that [definition].”
