Born to a Mexican American mother and a Mexican Huichol father, Jimenez Underwood spent her childhood traveling across California with her parents, who were agricultural workers. As her family journeyed between Mexicali and Calexico, she became intimately aware of border issues from a young age. Lines and cartography frequently serve as subjects in her work, signifying spiritual, geopolitical, physical, and national borders, along with their impact on the populations of plants, animals, and humans.
The work is a tribute to the Half Moon Bay, CA, 2022 shooting and killing of farmworkers.
