Hybrid Visions: Marifer Barrero, Cecilia Biagini, & Andrés Ferrandis

Ruiz-Healy Art is please to present Hybrid Visions featuring the work of Marifer Barrero, Cecilia Biagini, and Andrés Ferrandis. The show highlights shared elements like the usage of diverse media, a textural quality, and a trans-disciplinary art practice.

Formally speaking, Marifer Barrero’s practice is involved with elements of daily life and perception experiences. Nature, plants, landscape, the earth, the sky, enclosed spaces, and simple everyday life observations are the main motifs. Textiles, paper, found objects, plants are the predominating materials. Containing, folding, sewing, wrapping, and embracing are fundamental actions.

Inspired by traditions of Latin American abstraction, Cecilia Biagini makes paintings, mobiles, photograms, and reliefs that flow seamlessly from medium to medium. Utilizing a bold sense of color, line, depth, and abstraction, the varied works find commonalities in their composition and playfulness. Evoking ideas of physics, the geometric shapes in her work are arranged in a manner suggesting movement and animation. Some of her monoprints and painting are the result of a process limited to use specific tools, color, and elements. With that configuration, Biagini composes sessions of improvisations to capture a moment of that interaction.

At first glance, Andrés Ferrandis’s work fits in with the geometric abstract tradition. The three foundational elements of this artistic movement are crucial in Ferrandis’ work: the use of simple geometric forms, the non-illusionistic space and the non-objective compositions are some of the primary ingredients in Ferrandis’ proposal. However, these characteristics are just the threshold to the main concerns of the artist, who is interested in a crossbreeding art, expression of our contemporary existence.

A hard-cover catalogue accompanies the exhibit, featuring essays as well as full-color images of many of their works.
