IFPDA Fine Art Print Fair - Johanna Calle
Ruiz-Healy Art is please to present a dedicated booth to the work of Colombian artist Johanna Calle at the IFPDA Fine Print Fair. Calle investigates the boundaries of lines with a preference for a black and white palette using wire, stitching, and text, along with more traditional use of ink and pencil. “To me, the medium of drawing is equal to a language. A language that is constantly adapting itself.” – Johanna Calle
Her exploration of drawing and pushing the medium into a wide variety of techniques are at the heart of her formal, conceptual practice.
In 1992, Calle won a British Council Scholarship to pursue a master’s degree in Fine Arts at Chelsea College of Art, London and in 2001, the Alliançe Française Fellowship at the Cité des Arts in Paris. In 2012, the Central Bank from the Republic of Colombia minted two coins after her drawings, currently circulating as currency. She is married to Julio César Pérez Navarrete, her collaborator and researcher.
Calle’s one woman exhibitions include: Silentes, 2015-2016, a retrospective at the Museum of Art at the Bank of the Republic, Bogotá, Colombia and Museo Amparo, Puebla, Mexico; Grafos, 2014 and Intertexts, 2012 at Marilia Razuk Gallery, Sao Paulo, Brazil; Foto-Gramatica, 2013, Krinzinger Gallery, Vienna, Austria.
