The American Craft Council is thrilled to announce the 2017 Emerging Voices Awards winning artist and scholar, as well as our shortlist artists. In 2015 the ACC introduced the Emerging Voices Awards to recognize and celebrate the incredible talents of these stars who contribute to craft with their hands, minds, and creative spirits.
From a pool of qualified makers nominated by their peers and mentors, five artists and one scholar were selected as finalists for the Emerging Voices Awards by a panel of jurors. This year's top honors go to:
Emerging Artist
Jennifer Ling Datchuk, ceramics
Emerging Scholar
Sarah Parrish, PhD candidate, Boston University
Thank to our outstanding jury panel: Karen Hampton, textile artist; Jiseon Lee Isbara, dean of academic affairs and associate professor, Oregon College of Art and Craft; Michael Radyk, ACC director of education; and T’ai Smith, associate professor, University of British Columbia, and 2015 Emerging Scholar.
